C. Jack Batty died peacefully at home June 28, 2005 surrounded by his family. Born January 7, 1928 in Gloversville, NY he was the son of V. Cecil and Florence George Batty. Jack attended local schools and was a WWII Naval Veteran. After discharge from the Navy, he worked at General Electric for a few years then went on to operate Jack?s Service Station. He then worked for Contel/ GTE, retiring from the latter in 1990. Mr. Batty is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Marjorie White; two sons: James and his wife Luci of Gloversville, and Brad and his fiancé Caroline Plumb of Redford, NY; three daughters: Linda Fagan of Tampa, FL; Valerie Levine and her husband Paul of Gloversville; and Robin Ford and her husband David of Royal Palm Beach, FL; One sister Catherine Boland and her husband Bob of Garden Grove, CA; Several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Eleven Grandchildren; Two Great Grandchildren, and several nieces, and nephews. One grandchild predeceased him. Jack left behind many special friends, and the family asks that you remember him smiling. In accordance with Jack?s wishes there will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Urn burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Evergreen Cemetery, Sand flats, Fonda. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
