Carl Edward Glahn

Carl lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on November 4, 2013. Born May 5, 1951 in Oakland, CA to George and Marion (Lebo) Glahn, Carl grew up in San Lorenzo, exhibiting the knack for things mechanical at an early age. He attended Arroyo High and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1973 with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering. Shortly after, he served with the Peace Corps and spent three years in Zaire, Africa. In addition to learning to speak the French language, he maintained the motor pool and set up a rural operating room. After returning, Carl joined his older brother Paul as diesel repair shop owners in the Central Valley. He moved to Boulder Creek in 1983, soon after joining Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale. In three decades there, he earned a reputation as a creative and well-respected senior staff design and systems engineer. He supported numerous programs with insightful and practical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and meticulous attention to detail and dedication to the task at hand. In his spare time, Carl loved to work on cars and motorcycles, remodel his home and grounds, tinker in the garage, help neighbors, and helped assist his three sons to the rank of Eagle Scout, as Boulder Creek's Troop 623 Assistant Scoutmaster. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and relaxing at the end of the day with a good movie. Carl loved to regale everyone with his dry sense of humor and repertoire of stories from a well-lived life. Carl leaves behind a loving wife of 24 years, Heather, and four children, Edward (Ned), Carl (Walt), Brian and Julianne. He also leaves behind his brother Paul (Lola) Glahn, sister Audrey (Andy) Poulo, and brothers-in-law Walter Rockholt and Kerry Carmody along with nephews, nieces and aunts. His father, mother and oldest brother, George, preceded him in death. Carl was an amazing husband, father and brother and will live on in our stories, memories, and our hearts.
