Carl E. Hartung, 88, of Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, sadly passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on October 26, 2023. He had spent some time in hospice care at home. Born in Roxburg, Harmony Township, NJ, on December 1, 1934, Carl was the son of the late Gilbert Clinton and Clara Fox. Carl grew up on the family dairy farm in Harmony, NJ, where he developed farming skills and a strong work ethic. He owned and farmed on the historic Hoff-Vannatta Farmstead, in Harmony, NJ, for many years. He was a local hero, saving a teacher from drowning in the farm pond after she inadvertently drove into it on her way to school. Carl was an accomplished marksman, creating, owning, and operating the Pennbrook Farms Shooting Range in Reeders, PA. He also owned and operated the Radiant Star Rest Home in Harmony, NJ. Carl was a great father, gardener and storyteller and always had friends and family laughing. In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by six siblings: Adrain, Norman, Eleanor, Barbara, Donald, Glenn Daniel, and Paul. Carl is survived by his wife, Charity Stamper; 3 loving daughters; Elaine and companion John MacGillivray of NJ, Lois and companion Jeff Hodges of California, and Sharon and companion Jim Linney of Pennsylvania; grandson, Nicholas Sheerin and companion Shauna Volovitch of Pennsylvania; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held for Carl at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Spires Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor John North and Pastor Tim Russell officiating, and special music by The Redeemed. Spires Chapel Baptist Church is located at 2062 Highway 70N in Rogersville, TN. Family and friends may gather to visit with the family at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Township Historical Society, P.O. Box 123, Belvidere, NJ 07823. Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill, TN, is proudly serving the Hartung family.
