Carl H. Irwin Jr. 75 of St. Petersburg died Thursday, Dec.13, 2007 at Bayfront Medical Center. Carl was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 27, 1932. As a Colonel in the U.S. Army Carl retired to Fl. from MacDill Air Force Base where he was Senior MTM Transportation Advisor to the U.S. Readiness Command, Joint Deployment Agency and the U.S. Central Command. He was a graduate of the Univ. of Oregon, Golden Gate Univ. and the US Army Command and General Staff College. He also completed a graduate program at the Univ. of Tennessee. Some of his awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal. He was a Catholic and served as an usher at St. Raphael?s Catholic Church. After 40 years of marriage Carl?s wife Joan died in 1996. In 2000 Carl married Carol Koch, his neighbor of 20 years. Together they blended their families and enriched each others lives. Carl is survived by his wife Carol, his children Kathleen Hammel, Carl Irwin III, Meegan Irwin, and step children Karleen Johnson and Christopher Koch. Carl will also be missed by his seven grandchildren: Bridget, Alex, Kelsey, and Madison Hammel, Jennifer and Ryan Irwin, and Keegan Johnson. A viewing will be held from 5-8pm on Wednesday Dec.19 at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home. A Catholic Mass celebrating Carl?s life will take place Thursday Dec. 20th at 10am at St. Raphael?s Catholic Church. Carl will be buried with his parents and former wife at Arlington National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to PARC, P.O. Box 47799, St. Petersburg, FL 33743.
