She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 14, 1922 to John and Catherine Magrath and lived in Kansas City all her life until she relocated to Chico in June of this year to be with family. Her parents, two sisters, and brother predeceased her. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Virginia Magrath of San Francisco and her two nieces, Janice Magrath of Albany, California and Nanette Sagastume and husband, Mario of Chico. Carmela was thrilled to be a great-great-aunt to Genesis, Angel, Daniel, Jacinta, and Evelia of Chico. The family is especially grateful for the exceptional love and care lavished on Carmela, particularly in the last month of her life, by all the staff of WindChime of Chico. The family also thanks Butte Home Health and Hospice for the care and attention given to her by her nurses, health aides, and volunteer visitors. A memorial Mass for Carmela will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008 at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church, 566 East Lassen Avenue in Chico. Funeral and burial will take place at a later date in Kansas City.
