Carmen Fontanez

FONTANEZ, Carmen Sylvia, 86, of Land O’ Lakes, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016. She was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, and finally retired in Florida in 1973. Carmen was a proud military wife and loved traveling all over the world with her husband while he was stationed in so many parts of the world. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary. She worked at Macdill Air Force base as an American Red Cross Gray Lady volunteer for over 45 years. She enjoyed singing; even sang on the radio in the 40’s. During WWII she played in a competitive baseball league, later becoming a Ray’s fan. She loved making pottery and was a fantastic seamstress. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and loved learning new languages. Besides her native language of Spanish, she enjoyed learning English, German and French. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres of 65 years. She is survived by her son Andrew and his wife, Iris; two daughters, Lisa and Aileen; six grandchildren, Mimi, Captain Andre Fontaness USMC, Christina, Sabrina, Alexander Sr. and Adrianna; two great grandchildren, Alexander Jr. and Trinity; one brother, Wilfredo; one sister, Candida; extended family and friends. A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Our Lady of the Rosary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Loyless Funeral Home. The family requests that you wear Red and White.
