Carmen L. Gatto
August 11th, 1931 - June 30th, 2005
Carmen L. Gatto, 73, formerly of Wall St., Amsterdam and most recently of North Lakemont Drive, Cocoa, Florida passed away unexpectedly Thursday June 30, 2005 at the Weusthoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Florida. Born August 11, 1931 in Tampa, Florida, she was the daughter of Armando and Coralia Herandez Barrera. She moved in 1947 from Tampa, Florida to Amsterdam where she has resided before moving back to Florida one year ago. Carmen worked as a glove maker and was employed by Glove Master Inc. in Amsterdam before retiring in 1999. Mrs. Gatto was a Gold Star Mother and she was a Communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Carmen was married to Aniello A. Gatto whom she married on on July 3, 1949. He passed away on February 28, 1999. She was predeceased by beloved son Private Daniel A. Gatto who was killed in action in Vietnam on June 6, 1969. Survivors include Two Sons- Armando R. Gatto and his wife Maria J. Gatto of Amsterdam & Joseph A. Gatto of Clearwater, Florida Two Daughters, Ann Marie Gatto of Amsterdam and Lisa L. Gatto of Cocoa, Florida. Two Brothers- Carlos Barrera of Glenville, and Ralph Barrera of Amsterdam; Two Sisters, America ?Amy? Barrera of Amsterdam and Linda Slosek of Galway; Six Grandchildren- Danny Gatto, Diana ?Dee Dee? Roby, Amanda Gatto, Armando Gatto Jr., Aaron Smith, & Darius Ladson. Three Great Grandchildren-Chantal Gatto, Chelsey Redmond and Makayla Brown. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was pre-deceased by Three Brothers- Martin ?Marty? Barrera, Claudio ?Kito? Barrera and Armando Barrera. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday July 6th, 2005 at 9:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Michael?s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday July 5th 2005 from 4:00-7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, P.O. Box 699, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
