Carol Diebold

1935 - 2024

Carol Diebold, 88, of Lake Oswego, Oregon passed away on May 5, 2024 in the comfort of her care home.

Carol was born on December 4, 1935 in Houston, Texas to John and Gertrude Cooper. Shortly after World War II, she attended high school in England and travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East, particularly Kuwait where her father’s work often took them. Carol studied anthropology at the University of New Mexico. As a young mother, she lived in both Switzerland and California before the family moved to Illinois. Carol lived in Illinois until declining health brought her to Oregon to be closer to family.

Carol was employed for many years at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. In her retirement, Carol volunteered over 3000 hours at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. She loved to travel and was a great lover of mystery books, animals, and family reunions with her sons and grandchildren.  Always kind and understanding, Carol will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Peggy), Mike (Julia), Steve (Cecile), and Bruce; her grandchildren Emily, John (Cara), Paul, Gwen, Alexander, Gabrielle, and Xavier.

The family wishes to thank Altrua Adult Care Home for their loving care of Carol the past 3 ½ years. A private memorial service is planned on November 2nd in Fort Worth, Texas.
