Carol 'Gregory' Hodnett
December 25th, 1926 - September 16th, 2024
Carol Gregory Hodnett, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 16th with family by her side. Carol was born on Christmas Day, 1926, to Chauncey Depew Gregory and Gladys Gray Gregory in Lancaster, S.C.
She graduated from Salem College in 1946 and moved to Winter Haven, FL, with five girlfriends. She taught 4th grade until her marriage to James “Jimmy” Hodnett in 1949. They lived at Brahman Ranch until moving to Dade City.
Carol was a longtime member of the Dade City Presbyterian Church until moving to St. Petersburg. She and her lifelong friends started the first Bridge Club in Dade City in 1953. They traveled each year to amazing destinations such as Hilton Head Island, Mt. Mitchell and Lake Tahoe. The Bridge Club is almost complete in heaven. They are memorialized with a green bench in front of Lunch on Limoges in Dade City. Carol had a love for travel, entertaining, cooking, and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Chris Hodnett of Mountain City, TN, and Kay Hodnett of St. Petersburg, FL. Also, grandchildren Keith Hodnett, Michelle Hodnett, and Gregory Studer, and three great-granddaughters Bella and Alexis Hodnett and Kasi Lowe; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 25th, at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N, in St. Petersburg. A reception will follow at the Hodnett residence, 2790 70th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.
