Carol Floyd Holmes
March 15th, 1939 - June 28th, 2022
Carol Floyd Holmes, 83, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Born in Charlotte on March 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Marion Craig Holmes and Ina Floyd Holmes. Carol graduated from New London High School, after which he immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force studying electronics, radar technologies and radio communications. Thereafter, Carol furthered his education at Central Piedmont Community College. Carol spent his thirty-three year career at AT&T where he served as an electronics technician, operations manager and in marketing as an electronics consultant before retiring in 1998. Having been raised in a family of building contractors, Carol himself became a master craftsman and builder in his spare time. Aside from building his family’s houses in Charlotte, Carol also volunteered building houses for Habit for Humanity, as well as traveling on mission trips for disaster relief projects. Carol prioritized his family and loved the outdoors, and regularly camped, biked and hiked with his wife and growing children. With his wife, Dianne, he also traveled internationally, as well as across the US several times visiting numerous national parks, always enjoying the beauty and splendor of nature. Carol had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Cokesbury UMC where he regularly attended his men's Bible study class, and formerly served with the Boy Scouts and as a church youth counselor. In addition, Carol served on the Building Committee, Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, United Methodist Men and various other church committees. All those who knew Carol would likely describe him as a caring and gentle man, possessing many talents, which he shared generously with others. Carol is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dianne Almond Holmes; sons: Charles "Chuck" Holmes and Wesley Holmes (Catherine Holmes); daughter: Jennifer Holmes Trachen (Karim Trachen); grandchildren: Bradie Holmes and Mary Sheldon Holmes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Taska and Preston Williams; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to his parents, Carol was preceded in death by his sisters: Eunice Baucom, Ann Williams and Frances Yates; and brothers: Haskell Holmes and M. Conrad Holmes. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on August 6, 2022, with family visitation and reception to follow, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6701 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Feel free to leave the family your condolences via the Tribute Wall provided.
