Carol married Thomas (Tom) F. Offutt on April 6, 1974 at Mt. St. Mary’s College Chapel, Emmitsburg, MD. Carol and Tom settled in Frederick, MD, where they raised two children, Kelly and Ryan. Carol was a loving, nurturing homemaker with an infectious laugh, who created a home full of fun, creativity and homemade cookies. As her children grew, Carol rededicated herself to her education, receiving an MBA from Hood College. Carol loved helping others, especially through her work teaching math at Frederick Community College, where she was celebrated for her unceasing encouragement and belief in her students’ potential. After their children left home, Carol and Tom pursued new adventures together in Florida where they have resided for more than twenty years. While in Tampa, Carol became a trained volunteer at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL, where she provided support and care for patients’ families. Carol also wrote a book, ‘For This Marvelous Country,’ which tells the story of the start of her own parents’ friendship and romance through their wartime correspondence. In her book dedication, she said, “To my family, Thank you for sharing this loving journey. My heart is full.” People always came first for Carol. She loved travelling to visit with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends around America. Carol also made wonderful memories travelling to Spain, Italy and France, and treasured her visits to the UK to be with her grandchildren Theodore, Bridget, and Jonah.
