Carol Anne Reber Kirby, age 80, passed away on June 15, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Olympia, Washington. She passed calmly following a 17-year battle with cancer. Carol was born on May 1, 1935 in Bangor, Michigan to Myrtle Alberta Lockhart and George August Reber. Carol grew up in Tacoma, Washington, with her parents and six siblings: Larry Reber, Toni Reber Irish, Dorothy Reber Trippel, Sandi Reber Harkcom and Betty Reber Rees. Her brother, Kenneth Reber, predeceased her. Carol graduated Stadium High School and Crown Beauty School in Tacoma. Carol married her loving husband, Jimmy Kirby, August 3, 1953, sharing nearly 62 years of marriage. They shared their life settled in Olympia, Washington. Carol is survived by her daughter, Cherilyn “Cheryl” Kirby Flynn; her son, Keith Allen Kirby (Marie); and her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Michelle Daly. Carol was first and always a loving wife and mother. She also worked over the years as a cosmetologist at a variety of hair and beauty salons. Carol enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She loved the outdoors an often fished and camped with her family. She loved to travel. She also shared a love of bird watching with her father. Carol was a longtime member of Westwood Baptist Church in Olympia where she attended services over 40 years. Carol’s heart was big and, in addition to the numerous church functions and outreach programs she participated in, Carol made it her mission to fill and provide hundreds of comfort bags monthly for Olympia’s homeless over several years. Never has there been a more caring and giving soul than Carol. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Carol was always content to remain in the supporting role. She beamed with joy when anyone she loved shined. Carol will be best remembered for her generosity and kindness. She never let a meal pass without feeding everyone present. At times, God sends an angel in disguise. This week he called one home and we will miss her greatly. We miss you, Mom! You will be forever loved! Please leave memories of Carol or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
