Carolyn Ashburn

June 23rd, 1935 - April 16th, 2024

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to everyone she met. Carolyn was born to Helen (Legill) and John F. Hermann and was raised in Westphalia, KS with 1 sister (Pat McGhee) and 2 brothers (Donald Hermann and Larry Hermann).

Carolyn met the love of her life, Steve Ashburn when she was a senior in high school. They were married on September 4, 1953. Steve joined the US Air Force and his military career took them to many exciting places, including Nevada, New Mexico, Alaska, and Colorado.

She is survived by 3 daughters; Debra Klaes (married to Jerry), Diana Peppers (married to Alan), and Sandy Magpie, as well as 1 grandson (Riley Klaes), four granddaughters; Hayley Luepke (married to Andrew), Amanda Peppers (married to Drake), Ally Klaes and Maddie Magpie, and one great-grandson, Parker Luepke. Carolyn enjoyed every minute she spent with her grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Carolyn spent most of her working days managing the many restaurants and bars that she and Steve owned. She woke in the wee morning hours, 7 days a week, for many, many years. Her hard work kept them all running successfully. She was a great friend to their employees and customers alike.

Unfortunately, Carolyn suffered from dementia in the last years of her life. She was a very caring, loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and love for her family and her faith.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on April 29, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2746 Fifth St, Castle Rock, CO, 80104. A luncheon will be served afterward followed by a burial at 2:00 pm in Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org or Tunnel to Towers www.t2t.org

Aunt Carolyn always had a beautiful smile,no matter what the situation. I remember a time that I stayed with the Asburns many years ago as I was passing through Colorado. She opened her home and gave me a job. I will always remember her kindness. Deb, Di and Sandy my deepest condolences go out to you and your families. Bill McDaniel
