Carolyn Ferrell Austin "Nana", NC - Mrs. Austin, 73, of Pineville, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after passing peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 26, 2018, at Wellstar-North Fulton Hospital (Atlanta, GA) following a brief illness while visiting family. Mrs. Austin was born December 8, 1944 in Charlotte. She was the daughter of the late Brawley Rubin Ferrell and the late Mary Stokes Ferrell Buchan. Mrs. Austin, retired, worked over three decades with two church preschools providing a loving and nurturing environment to hundreds of children over the years. Mrs. Austin was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She especially loved being "Nana" to her beloved eight-year-old granddaughter, Claire. Mrs. Austin was known for her kindness and for her always friendly demeanor. She was also known for her strong Christian faith which, along with her family, sustained her through the loss of her beloved husband, George Richard Austin, Sr., in 2014. Mrs. Austin is survived by her son, George Richard Austin, Jr. and his wife Ashley Turner Austin, and their daughter, Claire Elizabeth Austin, of Atlanta, GA (formerly of Charlotte). She is also survived by brothers Robert Ferrell and David Ferrell and her sister, Marcelle Strain as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her brother, Jack "Buddy" Ferrell. A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Austin's life will be held at Pleasant Hill UMC located at 238 Fort Mill Hwy., Indian Land, SC 29707 on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 PM in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Pleasant Hill UMC Building Fund.
