Carolyn Payne
June 3rd, 1941 - November 28th, 2008
Carolyn S. Payne Carolyn S. Payne, 67, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008 at her home in Olympia. She was born June 3, 1941 to Paul Daugherty and Josephine Berland in Portland, Oregon. She was raised on the Naselle River along the Long Beach peninsula and attended grade school in Illwaco, Washington. She relocated with her family to Olympia in 1955 and Graduated from Olympia High School in 1959. She was a member of the United Churches of Olympia and the choir. In September 1966, she met and married Morris Payne, Jr. and raised their three children. Carolyn was a proud wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed family activities such as camping, clam digging and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She is remembered by all for her infamous cooking and gatherings in her home for her family and friends. After she retired from the State of Washington with a long career as a legal secretary, she and her husband traveled extensively, including motorcoach trips to Mexico, Canada and many locations in the Western United States. She loved her cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska but her favorite places included the Long Beach Peninsula and the family beachfront property in Copalis. Her hobbies and interests aside from her family were attending Red Hat Society luncheons, knitting, cooking and canning. Carolyn spent several years volunteering for the Safe Place Program and the Olympia Volunteer Center. Carolyn is survived by her husband Morris, three children; Dennis, Gloria and Doug; as well as her five grandchildren, Kyle, Simone, Jacob, Anna and Graden Logan; also a sister-in-law Joanne and numerous nieces and nephews.
