Obituary After a strong, stage-four lung cancer fight, Carolyn J. Smith passed away peacefully at her home in Colorado Springs, surrounded by her family on Friday September 8, 2017. The Serenity Prayer, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference," one of her favorites, helped Carolyn pass with grace and acceptance. Born on October 17, 1939 in Hutchinson, Kansas, Carolyn attended Wichita State University and pledged as an Alpha Chi Omega sorority sister. She became a Dental Assistant and served as the President of the Dental Assistant Association in Kansas. Carolyn married in 1965 and shortly afterwards moved to Colorado. In Colorado, she worked as a homemaker, receptionist, supervisor, and business owner. She loved to travel and considered Mexico one of her favorite destinations. Carolyn loved having family visit, and they always requested she make her famous Nu Ways. She loved to bake and preferred dessert for dinner. She loved reading, watching the Denver Broncos, and sharing coffee with friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jean Mackey; her brother, Stan; her grandson, Israel Houk; and her husband, Gene. Carolyn is survived by her five children, David Smith (Debby), Susan Hall (Jay), Valerie Zallar (Chad), Vanessa Archibald, and Vance Smith. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Carolyn Smith Blea, Levi Houk, Amy Baker (Ritchie), Dylan Archibald, Sophia Zallar, Ava Zallar, and Emma Hancock. Carolyn is survived by four great-grandchildren, Cooper Munger, Madison Munger, Joshua Baker, and Matthew Baker. She is survived by her niece, Jody Wilson and nephew, Kevin Mackey. Carolyns celebration of life will be 3pm on Sunday October 1, 2017 at Cappadona Funeral Home. Flowers may be sent to Cappadona Funeral Home, or contributions may be made in honor of Carolyn to Interim Hospice. Services
