May 15th, 1932 - December 31st, 2017
Catherine Elizabeth Callahan ( O’Connor) Born May 15, 1932, in Teaneck, NJ. The beloved wife of the late Daniel Nicholas Callahan and mother of Nicholas (Teenamarie)of Federal Way, WA, Daniel (Martha)of Hockessin, DE, Noreen Rivers (Fred) of Centerville, MA, and Rosemary Brockman ( Daniel) of Kalispell, MT. died peacefully on December 31, 2017. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister Anne Marie Thompson of Wallingford, CT, twelve grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, William O’Connor and cousin; David Sullivan. Catherine was a loving mother and was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. This homemaker enjoyed sewing, needle point, cross stitch, crafts and music. This gifted seamstress made Easter outfits for all four children and Noreen’s wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses for Rosemary. She also shared her gift making baptism banners and altar linens for St Francis Church. This faith filled woman was an active member of St Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, MA prior to moving to Federal Way. There she served as a Eucharistic minister, visited home bound parishioners, was active in the Cursillo Movement of Fall River and was the Co-coordinator of the RCIA process. The Callahan’s moved to Cape Cod in 1975 after spending many summer vacations there. As owners of the Summerside Motel in Hyannis for many years before retiring, she and Dan shared their hospitality with many people. After the death of her beloved husband, in 2002, she moved to Federal Way and was a parishioner at St Vincent DePaul Church. She enjoyed travel and social outings with friends and family. Celebration of her Life and funeral mass will be 11:00 am January 12th at St Vincent DePaul Church in Federal Way, WA- reception following at Nick and Teenamarie’s house. The Rite of Committal will be at 10:30 am at St Francis Xavier Cemetery January 16th. The family invites you to join them at the 8:30am mass at St Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, MA In honor of Catherine. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in her memory to a charity of your choice.
