Catherine McKinnon
June 2nd, 2014
Catherine McKinnon A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Musgrove Family Center 1152 Olive St. Eugene, Oregon, Monday, June 2, 2014 for Catherine “Cat” McKinnon who died May 23, 2014 at the age of 59. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed into eternity after suffering a massive brain aneurysm. She started life in Norfolk, Virginia born to George and Patricia (Finn) Isaksen in 1954. Being the second of what would eventually become seven children, she was a wonderful sister who loved laughter, family, singing, animals and was always in the middle of any sort of fun or mischief. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School and was married to Rex Altree and gave birth to Nathaniel and Heather(Albright) Altree. They later divorced but remained friends through the years. She married Al Laemmer with whom she had her son Nicholas, now of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sadly that marriage also ended. Scott McKinnon came into her life and convinced her to give marriage another try, sweeping her off her feet. One of the highlights of their time together was a surprise trip to Paris for her birthday that they enjoyed immensely. Scott and Catherine had many happy years together until his unexpected death in 2006. Catherine wore many hats throughout her life serving as a bookkeeper, accountant, waitress, manager and caterer. She was also a loving mother and faithful friend, maintaining many relationships from her school days. Her garden was a beautiful, peaceful place where she loved to entertain with parties, dinners and sharing music and laughter. She loved to cook, feeding the multitudes with wonderful food prepared especially for the occasion. She did not know a stranger and always made company feel welcomed and comfortable. Her motto's in life were something she took to heart, ‘Live to Share’ and ‘Your Greatness is Not What You Have, It Is What You Give’. Catherine is survived by her mother, Patricia Buchanan,(Clarence), San Jose, California; son Nathaniel, Eugene; daughter, Heather, Junction City; Nicholas Laemmer, Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers, Rod Isaksen, (Deb), Cottage Grove, George E. Isaksen (Theresa), Springfield, Derek Isaksen (Kathy), San Jose, California, Kirk Isaksen (Laura), Boston, Massachusetts; sisters, Bessie Bollag (Thomas), Eugene, Oregon and Tamah Gardner (Scott), Bend, Oregon; 2 grandchildren of Phoenix, Arizona; and, countless friends whom she loved and cherished. She will be greatly missed.
