Catherine "Joyce" Thompson, age 80 died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Kindred Hospital after a brief illness. Joyce was born in Hesperia Michigan on February 6, 1934. She graduated from Western Michigan University and for 5 years taught high school near Ann Arbor Michigan. In 1961, she and her husband Floyd Thompson, Jr. moved to St. Petersburg. Joyce was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and playing Bridge. She was known for her classic sense of style. She had a life long love of animals and was a patron of the National Wildlife Federation. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Campbell, her mother Helene Reynolds Campbell and her husband Floyd Thompson, Jr. She is survived by her 3 children, daughter Ellen Evancho and son-in-law, Andrew Evancho of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Theresa McGregor and son-in-law Douglas McGregor of Jacksonville, FL; and son Stephen Thompson and daughter-in-law Lisa Thompson of St. Petersburg; 6 grandchildren, Drew Evancho, Matthew McGregor, Rachel Evancho, Michael McGregor, Angelina Thompson and Catie McGregor. Additionally Joyce leaves behind several nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation from 5-7 PM on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. MLK Drive, St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce's name to the National Wildlife Federation.
