Cecil Blue Grimes
April 5th, 1923 - October 28th, 2013
Cecil Blue Grimes, 90, died on Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home. Cecil was born to Troy Blue and Eula Mae Thomas Grimes in Hoke County, North Carolina on April 5, 1923. Cecil's funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Pugh officiating. The interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park with military honors. Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marion Edwards, Pauline Player, brother, Eugene Grimes. He is survived by his wife, Edna Mahaffey Grimes; his children, Doug Grimes and wife Betsy of Elgin, AZ, Edna Brantley and husband Tim of McLeansville, Troy (Wayne) Grimes of Greensboro, Ronnie Grimes and wife Linda of Greensboro; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Lupo; brother-in-law; John Mahaffey and wife Jackie; sister-in-laws, Polly Carter and Susie Smith. Cecil was a WWII veteran landing in Normandy on Day 3. He fought in battles in France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received the Eamet Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; and the American Defense Service Medal. He was a Retiree of Akers Motor lines and Fredrickson Motor Lines. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church and other times at their home. The family request that donations be made to a hospice facility of your choice instead of sending flowers.
