Charles William "Bill" Almgren passed away at his home in Sutter Creek on Tuesday February 22, 2022 at the age of 86. Born to Charles Raymond and Jeannette (Peterson) Almgren in Philadelphia PA. He grew up a Navy "brat" bouncing all around the country before and during WWII, including a fateful move from Honolulu two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Bill graduated from Grossmont High School in El Cajon CA, where he especially enjoyed playing on the football team with his younger brother. He attended San Diego State University and UC Berkeley as a pre-dental student before his studies were interrupted by the draft. He proudly served two years in the Navy as a submariner, sustaining serious injuries. He achieved a rank of Quarter Master III class. He returned to civilian life as a dental student at UCSF. He also started a family with his bride, Addilee Riley. After graduating at the top of his class with a DDS degree, he moved to Novato CA where he started his dental practice. After nearly 40 years in practice, he retired and moved to Volcano with his new wife Marilyn (Christianson) Almgren enjoying life up at the "Ponderosa", moving closer to town in his later years. Bill was a deeply religious man, passionately committed to the Emanuel Lutheran Church. He loved Amador County, and was actively involved in service to his community, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, SIR's, and the Upcountry Rotary Club. Bill is survived by daughter, Shawn Kathleen Almgren, of Tempe, AZ; son, Charles Eric "Chuck" Almgren, of Sutter Creek, CA; Tina, wife of Jim Blackmon, of Huntsville, AL; stepsons Mark and Gary Christanson; step-grandson Drew Christianson. He is also survived by grandchildren, Blake William Weadock-Loberg, Sophia Alixandra Weadock-Loberg; former wife Marilyn Almgren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Almgren; and sisters, Karen Butler and Jane Esvelt. Contributions can be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church at 42 Summit St. Jackson, CA 95642.
