Charles J Bowers

Charles Joseph Bowers, Jr of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on April 11, 2022 at Tidewell Hospice following a prolonged advanced illness. He was 76 years old. Charles was born on May 31, 1945 to parents Charles Sr and Grace Bowers in Athens, GA. Charles Bowers graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in Engineering before serving his country in Vietnam in the US Army. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1971. For Valorous service to his country in a time of war, Charles was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the South Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with bronze star and palm devices and the Distinguished Service Cross. Following service to his country, he completed his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. On December 29, 1973 he was married to Alma (Ginger) Nichols. Charles was a native of Port Charlotte for the past 5 years, and lived in Royersford, PA for the prior 38 years. He had worked in various corporations as an engineer/ construction manager prior to his retirement. In his recreational time, he enjoyed reading, sailing, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his parents Charles Sr and Grace Bowers, as well as his beloved wife, Ginger. He is survived by his sons, Daniel J. Bowers (husband to Lisa (Bevan) Bowers) and Jeffrey N. Bowers (husband to Jaime (Cindrich) Bowers); brothers Nicholas and David Bowers and grandchildren, Caitlyn Bowers, Nathaniel Bowers, Cayden Bowers, Mason Bowers, and Eliana Bowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Disable American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, 860 Dolwick Drive, Erlanger, KY 41018. There will be a brief visitation and Memorial service on Monday May 9, 2022 at 10 AM at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, located at 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Road in Punta Gorda, Florida 33950. A meal of fellowship will be served to follow. Graveside service of interment with Military Honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery to follow at 2 PM
