Please join us in celebrating his life with visitation and service on Saturday, August 6th at First Baptist Church of Ravenel from 11-1pm with service beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Gardens in Summerville. Charles Glenn Cleland was born to the late James David Cleland and Mona S. Cleland. Preceded in death by Wife Bobbie Jean Cleland, Brother David Cleland and Sister Marlene Cleland Seay. He is survived by a son, Chris (Linda) Cleland and a daughter Cayce (Matt) Sovak with grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Caroline and Emily. Sister-in-law Cynthia Cleland (Robin) Austin and nephews Kenneth (Tobi) Seay and Brian (Stephanie) Seay. Glenn grew up in the Charleston Heights area where he had many close friends that were like brothers and sisters. He graduated in the Class of 75 from Chicora High School, where he played football and baseball. He loved his music and sports. He grew up playing baseball and had many stories of the game. He had many friends and they all had nicknames for each other. One nickname he was well known by was “GUS”. He enjoyed his job as a Pipe Fitter. He worked for Charleston Naval Shipyard, American Pipe, M-Tech, and spent the last 10 years at Detyens Shipyard. At the time Glenn worked at Charleston Naval Shipyard, he participated in softball and bowling leagues where he made lifelong connections and friendships. He had no plans of retirement because pipe fitting was his life and all he knew. He loved Atlanta Braves Baseball, listening to James Taylor and his Family. Glenn enjoyed working/creating with his hands- for example his customized bike with handlebars/basket including a custom carrying bike rack for his truck. He created our family names out of his artful way of bending wires. We are grateful to have these as reminders of the time and energy that he put into those he loved
