Charles "Doker" Copas
December 25th, 1942 - November 15th, 2013
Charles (Doker) Copas, 70, of Kingsport went to be with his Heavenly Father and family on Friday afternoon, November 15, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and was a graduate of Holston High School in 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Desert Storm. He achieved the rank of Sgt. and retired in 2002. Charles was retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 25 years of services. He was a member of Eastern Star Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Jackson and Ursel McDavid Copas; sister, Shirley Copas Strickler and brother-in-law, Lee (Speck) Strickler. Survivors include his son, Shannon Wayne Copas of Spring Hill, TN, daughter, Vicki Copas; niece, Patty Barger & husband Jeff; his two best friends, Phil Gaddis and Jim Langrel all of Kingsport; two great nephews, Justin Barger and Jonathan Barger along with two great-great nieces, Gracie and Zoe Barger. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport or anytime at the residence of his niece. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 7 pm with Pastor George Winegar, officiating. Military graveside services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Eastern Star Church Cemetery, Gray, Tennessee conducted by the American Legion Post #3 and Post #265. Phil Gaddis, Jim Langrel, Billy Martin Copas, Joseph Barrett, Justin Barger, Jonathan Barger and Bobby Ball, will serve as pallbearers. Bobby Copas will be an Honorary Pallbearer. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Star Church Cemetery, 360 Eastern Star Road, Gray, Tennessee 37615. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Copas family.
