Charles "Chas" Francis Jennings
March 13th, 1938 - November 3rd, 2009
Charles Francis Jennings, 71, of Satellite Beach died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. The son of Cleave and Martha Jennings, Charles was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 13, 1938 and attended Jefferson High School. Nicknamed "Chas", he was an avid wrestler, and won the Indiana State High School wrestling championship in 1956, the year he graduated. Charles went on to join the Air Force and served for 30 years at various duty stations including Okinawa and Iran. During this time, he attended night classes, earning an MBA from Troy University. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Awards, and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant before retiring. Charles remained active in sports throughout his life, and could often be found accompanying his grandsons to various games and sporting events. He is survived by: his wife, Dr. Susan Jennings; his daughter and son in law, Desiree and Dave Settgast, and their son Strider; his son and daughter in law, Lt. Col. Charles and Dr. Kelly Jennings, and their sons Andrew and Colton; his daughter, Renee Jennings and her son Avery; and his daughter Danee and, Steve Munich and their sons, Stuart, Steven and Sterling; and his sister, Merilou Jackson. A gathering will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbour Beach, with a memorial service to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. Donations may be made in Charles' name to Melbourne High School Football Boosters and Athletics
