Charles Wayne Kilgore
December 29th, 1937 - February 17th, 2019
Charles Wayne Kilgore 81, of Kingsport passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at NHC of Kingsport. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 until his retirement in 1998 as a Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military he was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Charles was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Sons of the Revolution, and the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman, history buff, reader, and also enjoyed listening to music. Charles was a devoted father and could often be seen downtown Kingsport “people watching” with his son Michael. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Lou Scalf Kilgore; infant daughter, Karen Ann Kilgore; parents, Charles Boyd and Mary Estelle Kilgore; brothers, Leland Howard Kilgore and Robert Donald Kilgore. Survivors include his son, Michael Kilgore; sisters, Reba Fern Klepper and husband Wayne, Shirley Nell Sluss; brother, Larry Douglas Kilgore; special friends and caregivers, Marilyn Taylor, Karen Burney, Tina Gause, and Sandra Werner; along with several nieces and nephews. A military graveside service will be conducted at 3pm on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with the honors conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 and members of the VA Army National Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 pm. Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport is serving the Kilgore family.
