Charles Franklin McCollum

Charles "Pop" Franklin McCollum, 93, of Monroe, NC, died on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his home. He was born in Greencastle, Indiana, on March 18, 1929, to Leslie O. and Margarette McCollum.Charles was a graduate of New York University. A retired accountant with the City of Charlotte and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Indian Land, SC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a US Navy Veteran (Korean War conflict).Charles was married to Frances McCollum for 60 years who pre-deceased him in 2012. Charles is survived by his daughter, Melissa Gardner, and her husband, Alan Gardner, of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Christine Campbell and MacKenzie Gardner of Monroe, NC; great grand child, Hartleigh Campbell, of Monroe, NC; pre-deceased by his brother William "Bill" McCollum; survived by his sister-in-law, Katherine McCollum, and his nephews, Michael McCollum and Billy McCollum, and niece, Laura Ross.Charles adored his two dogs, Yank and Beau, and his two cats, Tiger and Luna. They gave him alot of enjoyment and comfort. He enjoyed time watching Navy movies and going places with his family. He loved to dance with his wife in competitions and otherwise. He loved and missed his wife immensely. We are all going to greatly miss him. He was a family man who would do anything for his family.The family would like to express its thanks and appreciation to Home Instead for aide service over the years at his home and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for working with Charles over the past few months. A viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Charlotte NC. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.
