Charles Moore

March 31st, 1936 - November 28th, 2023

Charles Moore, 86, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on November 28, 2023. Charles was born in 1936, at his family home in Latta, South Carolina. He was the youngest of two sons born to the late Fred Moore, Sr. and Bessie Bass Moore. Charles graduated from Latta High School in 1954, and later attended Furman University. In 1961, Charles and Joan Amick wed in her family home, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Joan’s passing in March, 2022. They had four children, a daughter and three sons. Charles attended two West Columbia Baptist churches for more than 35 years, becoming a deacon in 1968. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Charles was always active in his church and in ministry as he felt the Lord led. Charles enjoyed singing in church choirs and teaching Sunday School. Charles owned Palmetto Engineering and Surveying and he worked as a civil engineer before he retired. Charles loved math and he enjoyed assembling wooden toys and making Jesus plaques and spending time with life-long friends. Charles was known for his dry sense of humor, and he often laughed more loudly than others at the punchline of his jokes. After retirement, Charles worked as an Ambassador for Thompson and Woodridge Funeral Homes, where he assisted with visitations and funeral services. He was a much valued employee whose kind and gentle manner will be missed. Charles is survived by his sons, Jayson Moore and Scott (Cristi) Moore; his grandchildren, Seth, Kaylee and Abby; and his sister-in-law, Trudy. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred Sr. and Bessie; his wife, Joan; and his children, Angela Valerie and Charles Michael; and his brother, Fred. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour before the memorial service (10:00 - 11:00 AM) in the church Atrium. Charles will be laid to rest in Lybrand Cemetery in West Columbia at a later date. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the Moore family.
