Charles C Rivers

Services to celebrate the life of Charles Rivers will be held on May 1, 2021, Saturday, between 2 and 4 pm at the Beach Funeral Home, 1689 S. Patrick Drive, Indian Harbor Florida. Charles is survived by his wife JoAnn Barrett Rivers and two children, Cinci Williams and preceded by Chad Rivers. He shared six children with Ophelia Snead: Deborah Miller, Danny Rivers and Jimmy Rivers, preceded by Clifford Rivers, Janice Williams, and Charles R Rivers. He leaves 34 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Charles supported numerous veteran groups and charities throughout his life. Once retired he volunteered in many civic groups, from working in the local library promoting literacy, to helping in several arenas with the homeless. Charles was born 90 years ago in Gadsden, Alabama to George H Rivers and Lucille Phillips. He enjoyed working and had a great work ethic, working until the job was done. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and farming. He had an amazing green thumb and shared the fruits of his labor with friends and family. There are many of Charles' avocado and mango trees in families and neighbors yards. He was kind and helpful without cause or reward. He enjoyed the warmth and happiness of any occasion to gather and share fun, laughter, and togetherness. Through out his military career, Charles acquired baking and cooking skills. He attended The Culinary Institute of America and used this training as a chef, baker, and caterer in all aspects of club management. He received an Associates degree in business management that enabled him to pursue a career as a supervisor and manager in various military clubs and country clubs. Charles continued these skills when he retired, sharing his love of food with recipes and meals for family and friends. Charles was a dedicated father and treasured his family and cherished every moment.
