Obituary Charles Bogey Standfield was born January 13, 1932 in Pensacola, Florida to Harry Stanfield and Victoria Diggs Stanfield. He grew up in Pensacola with seven sisters and three brothers. Charles joined the Navy in his late teens serving for one year, and then transferring to the Army where he served for 30 years, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. He is a veteran of the Korean War, during which time he was injured, and the Vietnam War. In 1959, Charles met Helga Stadler in Stuttgart Germany. They married and raised three daughters, Cecilia, Victoria and Teresa. Following his retirement from the military in 1982, the family moved to Marina and Charles worked with civilian contractors to the Army at Fort Ord, CA managing the Transportation Motor Pool. Retiring from there at 75 years of age, he continued to reside in Marina until his death on May 28, 2018 (Memorial Day). Charles lived out his Catholic faith as a man known to love God, his family, his neighbor, and all creatures great and small. He and his family were members of Sacred Heart Parish at Fort Ord and St. Jude Parish in Marina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served in various ministries at the church. Charles was known for his kindness to the poor, his generosity to everyone, and his gift as a peacemaker. Charles is survived by his wife Helga, his daughters and their spouses: Cecilia & Joseph Nathan Ruffin III (Smokey); Sr. Maria Gabriel (Victoria) Standfield, OSF; and Teresa & Edward Maurice Lee, and his grandchildren: Dr. Therese Ruffin; Joseph Ruffin IV, his wife Monica, their daughter Malaya; and Justine Lee & Jasmine Lee. He is also survived by relatives in Florida, Germany, Indiana and California, and by his “adopted” children, and many friends. A recitation of the rosary will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 3:00pm at St. Jude Parish, 303 Hillcrest Ave., Marina. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 4th at 12 Noon also at St. Jude. Committal with Full Military Honors will follow at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charles' memory to: St. Jude Church or St. Vincent de Paul, 303 Hillcrest Ave., Marina, CA. 93933. May Charles rest in peace.
