Charles E. Thomas
May 31st, 1922 - December 7th, 2013
"MONSON - Charles E. Thomas, Jr.(91), formerly of Stebbins Road., passed away at Lifecare Center of Wilbraham on Dec. 7, 2013 with his family by his side. Born May, 31, 1922 in Palmer, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mabel M. Thomas. Charles lived his entire life in Palmer, Monson area. He previously worked as a supervisor at Sanderson - MacLeod and was a former member of the Masons. He also was a former deacon for the Second Congregational Church of Palmer and spent 19 years as a volunteer at Wing Memorial Hospital. Charles served in the Marines during WWII in the South Pacific arena and continued to stay active through the Marine Corps League. Charles was pre-deceased by his wife of 64 years Shirley (Smith) Thomas in May of this year, and by his son Tom in 2002. He is survived by his sons, Roger of Palmer and Dale Thomas & his partner Ron Gillhouse of Torrington, CT., as well as adopted son Roy & his wife Danielle Wilson & family of Ohio. Charles also leaves many dear friends which the family will always cherish, including our extended family at Lifecare. Military Honors will precede the joint burial service for both Charles & Shirley which will be held Thursday, December 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the graveside at Hillcrest Cemetery on Hamden Road, Monson.
