It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charles R. Weniger says goodbye to our husband, father, brother, uncle, and "Grandpa Hots”. Charlie passed away peacefully in his home on October 28th at the age of 64. He was filled with memories of a life lived -- and loved -- to the fullest. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Charlie graduated from the University of Florida and made his home in St. Petersburg, FL early in his career. Charlie established Weniger Financial, Inc., his financial advisory business, in 1994. He took great pride in helping his clients through the highs and lows of life. Charlie was an avid Florida Gator fan, a boating enthusiast, and a family man. He was best known for creating a life centered on spending time with his family, working hard, helping others, and having fun. Always looking for ways to give back, Charlie was active in several community organizations. He was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Anthony’s Hospital (former Chairman) and BayCare Health System. He was a 20-year member of the Board of Directors of The Children’s Dream Fund. He also served on the Board of Directors of The Children’s Home of Tampa and The Canterbury School of Florida, and on the Advisory Board of the University of Florida MBA program. In his free time, Charlie was always on the go, squeezing everything he could out of his beautiful life. Whether taking boat trips to Key West and the Dry Tortugas with family and friends, riding motorcycles through the backroads of the U.S. with his wife, taking trips to ride rollercoasters with his son, coaching his daughter in soccer, skiing in Colorado, or simply enjoying breakfast in his backyard overlooking the water, Charlie lived life to the fullest and without regret. Charlie is survived by his wife Peggy; his children Kari Heckert (Trip) of Prairie Village, KS, and Rob (Alex Araujo) of New York, NY; his granddaughter Annabelle Heckert; his siblings Fred Weniger of Pittsburgh, PA, Christine McDermott of Pittsburgh, PA, and Pam Feeney of New Buffalo, MI; as well as his in-laws, cousins, extended family, and many close family friends. Charlie fondly remembered his parents, Frederick and Christine Weniger. Charlie’s visitation and memorial service will be held at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home on 2201 Dr. MLK Street North in St. Petersburg. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 1st from 6-8pm and Friday, November 2nd from 10-11:30am with a celebration of life service starting at 11:30am on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations are being requested to The Children’s Dream Fund (childrensdreamfund.org) and St. Anthony’s Hospital (baycare.org/sah).
