**Obituary for Charles Darrell Zinn**

Charles Darrell Zinn, fondly known as Darrell, passed away on June 20, 2024, in Weiser, Idaho, at the age of 85. Born on March 17, 1939, in Boise, Idaho, Darrell was welcomed into the family home in Meridian, Idaho, by his parents, Charles O. Zinn and Margaret Kyle Zinn, and his two older sisters, Betty and JoAnne.

As a young boy, Darrell's family moved to Nyssa, where he discovered his lifelong passions for fishing and hunting. Those adventures and love for the outdoors stayed with him through every stage of his life.

Darrell's journey into the working world began early. His parents owned the 76 bulk station, and as a young teenager, he drove the bulk delivery truck, marking the beginning of his deep connection with trucking. Over the years, he held several jobs, including driving for Woodgrain, before founding his own trucking company, "Zinn Trucking," with offices in Weiser, Idaho, and Georgia. He hung up his long-haul trucking hat in 2000 but continued short hauls to Oregon and Washington until his full retirement. Retirement didn’t slow Darrell down; he turned to farming, adding cows, horses, and all sorts of animals to his small acreage. His wife Nancy often played the role of mechanic, keeping all the equipment in tip-top shape with Darrell by her side.

Darrell’s love story began in Weiser, Idaho, when he walked into the Beehive and met Nancy Culley. He decided then and there that she was the woman he would marry. In 1982, they tied the knot and spent their lives raising their combined family. Darrell’s love for his family was undoubtedly his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his children, Randy (Tammy), Chuck (Krystin), Becky (Chris), and Missy, as well as his 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and his nieces.

An interesting twist in Darrell’s life was his unexpected role as a “Cat Daddy.” He took care of a cat named Tommy, who found a loving home with Darrell, despite Darrell’s initial claim that he didn’t want cats. Tommy, who should have died but survived and thrived under Darrell's care, is now lost without his beloved Cat Dad.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, and his grandson, Chris Eversole.

A ceremony to honor Darrell’s life will be held on July 1, 2024, at 11:00 am at Thomason Funeral Home in Weiser, Idaho.

Darrell's kind heart, steadfast love for his family, and passion for life will be dearly missed but never forgotten by all who knew him.

We Entrusted Charles Zinn's Care To

Thomason Funeral Home

For more than 100 years, the Thomason Funeral Home has worked to help the Weiser community heal after loss. We help families plan funerals, cremation services, and celebration of life services. Our story began in 1910 when Lloyd Northam opened the doors at the site now occupied by the current Weiser Elk’s Lodge. Since then, the business has had several names, partnerships, and owners. Among them was Dale Thomason, our namesake, who began working at the funeral home in the mid-1940s and purchased the home as a family business to run with his son. At Thomason, we focus on helping your family with personalized care. We do everything we can to provide professional, compassionate support to every family that trusts us with their funeral arrangements. Along with our sister location in Ontario, Oregon, we help Treasure Valley families connect, honor, and remember their loved ones....
