Charlotte Ruth Clark

August 12th, 1924 - December 14th, 2013

Charlotte Clark, an Oregon native and lifelong resident of Portland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was born to Beulah and Charles Kaufman on August 12th, 1924 in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Franklin High School. Charlotte married Loren R Clark in the fall of 1946. Charlotte was a homemaker but also worked for many years with her husband at Clark Jr., a group of women’s junior fashion stores that Loren founded in the mid 1950’s. After the sale of their company in the early 1980’s Charlotte started a 2nd career as a travel agent and eventually opened her own agency. Charlotte was a long time member of both the Multnomah Athletic Club and Portland Golf Club. In addition to tennis and golf, she also enjoyed gardening, camping with her family in Central Oregon, boating on the Columbia River and the San Juan Islands, and the company of a good dog at home and on walks. Always active in her church and community, she had many friends including her sorority sisters from Alpha Kai Omega when she attended the University of Oregon. She was also an excellent cook and took pride in providing a loving and supportive home for her husband and children. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Brumbaugh and Anne Clark, her son Tom Clark, four grandchildren, and her sister Margaret Lemcke. She was preceded in death by her husband Loren, her bother Quincy, and sister’s Edith and June. There will be a family gathering this summer at the Metolius River Valley in Central Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her honor to the Oregon Humane Society. Tom Clark and Autumn Funerals and Cremation Services are in care of arrangements. &bsp;

Charlotte will be missed. She was such a dear best friend to my mother, Eleanor Wiley, and I spent many holidays with the Clark family as well as other occasions, memories I will treasure.

Lori and Drew Callister

Charlotte and Loren were such special neighbors in our Mount Tabor neighborhood. Every year my son, Drew, was little, they would create an Easter basket and put it in the little maple tree in our front yard on Easter morning. Drew was wide-eyed and so thrilled to see that basket each year. He believed! And, they didn't claim credit for it ... we discovered who after several years! They also attended plays in which Drew performed in school -- what wonderful people to have as friends in my neighborhood. My sympathies to Tom and family. You were so fortunate to have a great mom in Charlotte, and your dad, as well!

Loving thoughts and memories of Auntie Charlotte. I think of how much fun my mother had with her -- and how much fun our families had together when we were kids. I remember her energy, her drive, her lovely clothes, her generosity, her beautiful home, and her wonderful cooking!
