Cherie Lorraine Shafer

Cherie Lorraine Shafer (Newell), age 54, went to be with Her Lord and Savior on Tuesday October 8th, 2013 in Eugene, Oregon. Cherie was born January 10, 1959 in Bakersfield, California. She was the 3rd child out of 4 children, born to Harold and Joan Newell. Cherie’s Father Harold Newell, Sister Cathy Newell, and Husband Gene Shafer have all preceded her in death and welcomed her with open arms to her new Heavenly home. Cherie’s heart was for people. She treasured her family and grandchildren. Her giving, endearing, compassionate spirit always reached out and touched all who knew her. She never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. She enjoyed her job as a customer service representative at Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Eugene, Oregon. She married Bill Vinson; they had two sons John Richard Vinson and Jesse Zane Vinson. In 1989 Cherie married Gene Shafer along with his seven children, Ron, Earl, Deanna, Lyle, Laura, Sherry and Neil. She is survived by her parent’s Troy and Joan Roberts, brothers Curt and Chris Newell, 9 children, 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home at 225 South Danebo Avenue in Eugene Saturday October 12th, 2013 at noon with a viewing from 10:00- 11:00 am. A Committal service will be conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery following the Funeral Service. In Lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
