Cheryl Lynn Overman
March 11th, 2017
Cheryl Lynn Overman Cheryl Lynn Overman, 65, passed away peacefully in Eugene on February 6, 2017, after a short illness. Predeceased by her parents, Cheryl was born to Victor and Billie Overman in San Pedro, CA. She is survived by her daughter Christina Lapchynski, son-in-law Walter Lapchynski, granddaughter Sierra, brother Jerry Overman, sister-in-law Gail, and nephew Victor Overman, along with many many dear and close friends. Cheryl moved with her family from California to Oregon in the early 1970s, where she spent most of her adult life. Cheryl spent nearly 40 years in the beverage industry, building an accomplished career that touched and influenced many, from Oregon throughout the entire country. Cheryl loved people and loved to share her enthusiasm and knowledge with others, while supporting teammates in any way she could. She began her career at Gold River Distributing in Grants Pass/Medford where she worked from 1978 through 1990, at which time she moved to Portland and continued her career with Mt. Hood Beverage/Columbia Distributing until mid 2011. Always up for an adventure and challenge, in 2012 Cheryl moved to Burlington Vermont to work for Vermont Information Processing, Inc. She moved to Eugene in 2014 to be closer to her beloved family, after a courageous and successful battle with breast cancer. While in Eugene, Cheryl continued to work for VIP until her retirement in June 2016. During Cheryl’s career, she had an incredible aptitude for teaching others -- she knew how to break down a complicated task into relatable concepts. Her job fit her perfectly as she traveled first in Oregon/Washington and then from Hawaii to New England while working for VIP. She was able to share her enthusiasm along with her incredible knowledge and was a cherished mentor to many. During this long journey, Cheryl developed many friendships that lasted her entire career. She will be greatly and forever missed by all she touched. Although Cheryl knew how to make work fun, she knew how to make fun even funner! She loved to travel with family, friends, her church, and volunteer organizations. She traveled to Israel, Turkey, Nicaragua, and Mexico. She especially loved Hawaii, where she visited many times with Christina and Sierra, and La Quinta CA for her annual girls’ boondoggle. Although Cheryl’s retirement was brief, she made the most of it. During the six months before she became ill, she volunteered at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, drove herself to Lincoln, NE to research her family’s genealogy, and was an enthusiastic and proud member of the DAR (Daughters of American Revolution). While in Portland, she was an active member of Grace Bible Church and participated in the church choir. There will be a celebration of Cheryl’s extraordinary life at Musgrove Mortuary and Cemetery, 225 S Danebo Ave., Eugene, OR 97403 on Saturday March 11 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Cheryl’s remembrance to the American Cancer Society.
