Christian Thomas Hanley, Sr., 84 of Summerville, SC passed away comfortably of natural causes May 19, 2023. He was born March 23, 1939 in Baltimore, MD to the late Christian Leo Hanley and Pauline Cecilia (Hughes) Hanley. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Carol (Hicks) Hanley, his brother Dennis Michael Hanley of Charlottesville, VA, sister Delores Marie Stephenson of Virginia Beach, VA, children Christian Thomas Hanley, Jr of Summerville, SC, daughter Christina Lynn Mawhinney of Rotunda West, FL and Chandler Todd Hanley of New Windsor, MD, grandchildren Adria Lorraine Konoza of Summerville, SC, Christian James Hanley of Hanahan, SC and Jon-Charles Christian Mawhinney of Rotunda West, FL plus five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Kathleen C. “Kitty” Citro and Mary Patricia “Pat” Simbeck as well as one great-granddaughter. Mr. Hanley attended Baltimore City College High School in Baltimore. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served 4 years as an airship rigger. After the Navy, he returned to Baltimore where he married Linda. For the majority of his working life, Mr. Hanley was a route salesman for the E.H. Koester’s Bakery and later Schmidt Baking Company, both of Baltimore. After retiring, he became a part-time realtor, school bus driver, and Santa Claus. He suffered a stroke just days before September 11, 2001 which left him partially paralyzed and with other disabilities. He lived at home for nearly 15 years being cared for by Linda. He spent the last 6 years in the Life Care Center in North Charleston, SC where he passed away. The family would like to thank the staff of Life Care Center for the care they provided for Mr. Hanley and the rest of the family for so many years. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 26, 2023 at Wassamassaw Baptist Church, 704 Wassamassaw Lane, Moncks Corner, SC. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, Charleston, SC. https://connect2.musc.edu/give-to-kids please select “Pediatric Cancer (Oncology)” in the “My gift supports:” drop down box.
