Vessey Funeral Service - Fort Collins
Christopher Albert Maddox, Sr.
June 3rd, 1944 - December 1st, 2020
Obituary Christopher A. Maddox Sr. died Tuesday, 1 Dec 2020, in the home of his daughter Colleen Sprenger in Weld County Colorado; he was 76 years old. Chris was born to his late parents Albert Christopher and Mabel Marie Maddox in Baltimore, MD on 3 Jun 1944. He is survived by his children Christopher Maddox, Jr., Sean Maddox, Colleen Sprenger, Alicia Marcom, Tasha Cox, Maggie Wright and Angela Maddox and 10 grandchildren. The memorial service will be deferred until a date to be determined. Outreach to the family can be made through Elizabeth Thole at Vessey Funeral Service in Fort Collins, CO. (970) 482-5065. Chris was a veteran of the Maryland Army National Guard, where he served as a senior infantry sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1975 after six years of service and attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. His personal decorations included the five-year state service ribbon. Chris took great pride in his service to Maryland and the county that he loved. Chris was a charming man with a devilish "Jack Nicholson" grin and a mischievous disposition. He was highly likable with an easy laugh and had a shameless sense of humor. He was a demanding customer whose wrath was felt by many service providers who failed to meet his standards. You did not want to be on the receiving end of the routine that began with him resetting his glasses and pointing at you with his index and pinky fingers, a gesture nearly perfectly mimicked by Sean. He held strong conservative political values, which he proclaimed often and unapologetically. Chris was an avid golfer, who always kept his clubs nearby just in case there was a chance to play; he was good too. He had a large extended family and made many friendships throughout his life. Chris also loved children and derived great pleasure in putting a smile on a child's face. Mostly, Chris loved his children and grandchildren. He spoke with many of them and asked about all of them often. His grandchildren's exploits kept him young at heart. Though Chris has departed his earthly body, the best of him remains in the lives, achievements, thoughts, and love of his children and grandchildren. They are the salt of the earth and he remains with them every day as they navigate this world. They use what he's provided them in achieving their successes and in overcoming their failures. They owe much of their resilience to him. Love and life can be messy, and although life's circumstances have driven Chris' family in different directions, his positive influence on each of them is clear and undeniable. He loved them all a bushel and a peck and never missed the opportunity to give or wish them three Irish kisses. God bless you, Chris.
