Christopher John Obrien
May 18th, 1972 - October 29th, 2014
Christopher O'Brien, 42, died at the Viera Hospital after a brief illness on October 29, 2014. Chris was born in Fort Belvoir, VA in 1972. He moved with his family to Satellite Beach in 1979 and later to Melbourne in 1991. He attended Satellite High School where was a member of the Satellite High band and won several awards as a member of the jazz band. In his youth he loved playing soccer and softball and was a devoted fan of World Cup Soccer and College Softball World Series. He attended University of Colorado and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from University of Central Florida. He subsequently earned a second degree from UCF in computer science. He was a computer network administrator for Mission First under a contract with the Air Force Technical Applications Center at Patrick Air Force Base. He was recognized for his expert ability to troubleshoot difficult computer problems. For many years he did volunteer work at the annual Melbourne Arts Festival. He loved his cats, Puddy and KC, enjoyed cooking and Karaoke. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice (PJ) O'Brien and is survived by his father, David O'Brien, his sister, Theresa Pettinger, and his brother, Kevin O'Brien. Funeral arrangements have been made with Beach Funeral Home, 4999 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne with a visitation on Tuesday, November 11th, from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne on Wednesday, November 12th at 11:30 am, followed by internment at Florida Memorial Gardens. After the services, family and friends are invited to the family's home for a celebration of Chris' life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
