Clarence L Baker Resident of Orinda June 20, 1921- December 27, 2010 Clarence passed away peacefully on Monday. He touched many lives with his positive outlook, his love of family and his being a "jack of all trades". Clarence was born in Arkansas, and after graduating from high school in Texas he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Upon his return to the states he settled in Oakland and married his lifelong sweetheart, Eileen Sims. Clarence and Eileen enjoyed a marriage of over 60 years during which they raised four children and traveled all 48 of the contiguous states. Clarence enjoyed a 35 year career working for the International House at the University of California, Berkeley as Superintendent of Physical Operations. He enjoyed fishing, camping, RVing, and gardening. He was a member of the Diablo Tourin' Turtles and was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Orinda. He is preceded in death by his wife Eileen, his son, Rev. James R. Baker, his sons-in-law David Menne and Ronald Heusler. He is survived by his daughters Barbara Wolf, son-in-law Steve Wolf, Patricia Heusler and Nancy Menne. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amy Kaufman (Wolf), Benjamin and Daniel Wolf, Michael and David Heusler, and Jessica, Amanda, and Veronica Menne. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Dina and Mira Kaufman, and Eden Wolf. Services are being held Thursday December 30th at 9:00 am at the chapel at Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Ave., Oakland near Piedmont. The family invites donations in Clarence's honor to The International House "Architectural Heritage Fund", 2299 Piedmont Ave., Berkeley, CA 94270.
