Clarence Clinton Crowther
March 28th, 1932 - February 16th, 2017
Clarence Clinton Crowther, Jr. (Clem), 84, of Charlotte died peacefully on February 16, 2017 at Plantation Estates, Matthews, NC. He was born in Atlanta, GA in 1932, the son of Clarence Clinton Crowther, Sr. and Elizabeth Zenor Crowther. Clem graduated from Marietta Georgia High School and attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He attended electronic school at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi and then served 18 months in Japan. Upon his discharge, he began his career with Southern Bell/BellSouth. He worked with them in Atlanta, Raleigh and Charlotte. He served as President of the Charlotte Georgia Tech Club in 1981. He also served as a deacon at Sardis Presbyterian Church and was elected as an elder but was unable to serve because of being transferred to Atlanta for 5 years before he retired. After retiring, Clem volunteered for more than twenty years at Presbyterian Main Hospital. He and his wife Judy recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Their children are daughter Cindy of Charlotte; son Clark (Elizabeth) of Charlotte and their children Sara, Mary and Philip; son Chris of Charlotte and his children Emmie and Lillie; son Craig (Paige) of Raleigh and their children Clint and Ellie. The family wishes to thank Dr. Adam Kuykendal, Dr. Steven Plunkett and their teams at Novant Cancer Center Matthews for their care of Clem during his nearly two-year cancer battle. Thank you also to the Visiting Angels of Charlotte and Hospice of Charlotte for their help in caring for him during this final phase of his life. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 pm at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC. Committal will be at the Columbarium at Sardis Presbyterian Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Samaritan's Fund, Plantation Estates, 733 Plantation Estates Drive, Matthews, NC 28105 or the charity of one's choice. 3/4/2017 02:00 PM Memorial Sardis Presbyterian Church 6100 Sardis Rd Charlotte NC 28270
