Online Obituaries for Nicholasville, KY Clark B. Smith, MD, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the age of 85, at his home. Born June 6, 1932 in Three Rivers, Michigan, he graduated from Wayne State University and Wayne State College of Medicine in 1957.He interned and did his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Detroit Memorial Hospital. In 1956, he married Joanne Marie Pursell of Plymouth, Michigan. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1961 as an Obstetrician Gynecologist. He and Joanne raised two children, Andrew Alan Smith, born in 1962, and Susan Elizabeth Smith, born in 1965. He practiced medicine and obstetrics and gynecology in Hillsdale, Michigan from 1962 to 1987. He then began a career in academic medicine, teaching Family Medicine residents general Family Medicine and womens heath including obstetrics and cesarean section at the University of Texas training program in Conroe, Texas for six years. While there, he developed a three day course for Family Physicians in Obstetric ultrasound which attracted physicians from around the country. He then moved to the University of Tennessee Family Practice Residency in Memphis, Tennessee where he continued his resident teaching and Obstetric ultrasound courses as well as other procedures such as colonoscopy and endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy. In 1985, he was invited to provide a seminar on contraception, and subsequently, for 15 years, a popular seminar on abnormal uterine bleeding at the American Academy of Family Physicians annual Scientific Congress. He published articles on Obstetric Ultrasound (Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 1984, and on Training of Third Year Family Practice Residents in Obstetric Ultrasound (Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1993). He also published scientific articles on Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy. He retired in 2007, moving with his wife to Nicholasville, Kentucky. He is survived by Joanne, his Wife of 62 years, his children (Andrew Smith and Susan Joslin) and two grandchildren, Kasey Joslin and Clark Joslin. Funeral Information Services will be planned at a later date in Michigan.
