Clayton Lindsey Thornton, 81, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully October 8, 2024, at Fairforest Grove Senior Living. He was born on March 9, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina to Carl and Sarah (Davis) Thornton.
Clayton graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. He worked as a cashier repairman with National Cash Registers (NCR). Clayton was an avid member of Cayce United Methodist where he led Sunday school. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach to watch for dolphins. Clayton was a man that knew a little bit about a lot of things. Lending a helping hand and building things for those in need were among his hobbies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and frequently enjoying a Rush’s cheeseburger. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Clayton is survived by his daughter, Tari Koon (Gary) of Columbia, SC. He is survived by his 4 grandchildren, Caitlyn Frick (Alli), Lindsey Thornton (Brandon), Chandler Thornton, and Kaylee Thornton. Clayton is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Wright (Mary Ann) and Davis Wright (Linda). He was preceded in death by his son, Corey Thornton.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 11th from 3-4 pm at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, SC. Following will be a graveside service at Westside Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff at Fairforest Grove Senior Living for the love and care they provided Clayton during his time there.
