Cleveland William "Billy" Giles, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 22, 2024, in Macon, Georgia. The funeral service to honor Billy's life will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Gardens.
Billy was a retired aircraft sheet metal mechanic, having dedicated his career to Robins Air Force Base. He also served with honor in the Army Reserves for six years. His career achievements and service to his country were sources of great pride for him and his family. Education was an important aspect of Billy's life, as he pursued some college coursework. Though formal recognition and accolades were not his primary pursuit, he was admired and respected for his vast knowledge and expertise in his field. He was known for his remarkable ability to tell a story, captivating his audience with humor and wit. His funny nature and great storytelling skills endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Billy had a passion for gardening, spending quality time with his family, and indulging in old westerns and detective shows. His faith was also an essential part of his life, and he was an active member of the 6th District Church in Crawford County.
He was born on October 9, 1946, in Byron, Georgia, to the late Cleveland William Giles, Sr. and Emma Lou Rowland Giles. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Giles, and countless loved ones who went before him. He leaves behind his devoted spouse of 56 years, Frances McGrotha Giles; his children, Reggie Giles and his wife Lisa, and Lori Phillips. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Joel Giles, Brittany (Ben) Poole, Jessica (Brian)Turner, Christian Huddleston, Josiah Giles, Laney Bozeman, and Sam Bozeman, and the cherished great-grandfather of Aiden, Peyton, Kynedi, Eli, Parker, Leilani, Kanan, and Kai. Billy also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Kenneth (Deborah) McGrotha, beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of extended friends and family who will miss him dearly.
