Clifford ?W? Dreaney 65, of Mills terrace, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam, New York on Jan. 10, 1941, he was one of two sons born to the late William and Catherine Powles Dreaney. He lived in Amsterdam where he was a graduate of the Class Of 1959 of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Clifford then entered the US Navy where he furthered his education. He served during the Vietnam era and was present at the Berlin Airlift and in the Bay of Pigs. A proud veteran, he remained with the Navy with a career that spanned thirty years, traveling extensively. He retired in 1989 as a Master Chief Personnelman on Treasure Island, off of San Francisco, California. Returning to this area in 1993, he worked for the Amsterdam Recorder as a dispatcher and currently was the crossing guard for the Village Of Fonda school. He was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Johnstown where he served on the church council and was its property chairperson. Cliff was devoted to Noah's Project, a soup kitchen in the greater Johnstown area. He was also a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve. On March 9, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy E. Taylor. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his children, Belinda McKenzie of Antioch, California, Sean and his wife Alicia Dreaney of Toledo, Ohio, and Liesl and her husband Rick Hendrix of Willits, California; his brother, Roger Dreaney of Amsterdam; grandchildren, Chad, Jarred, Amber and Brandon Dreaney, Gwendolyn and McKenna McKenzie and Amanda Mason, Anthony and Megan Hendrix; a nephew Todd and a niece Teresa Dreaney as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Cliff also leaves his faithful companion, Shadow. A service to celebrate Cliff?s life will take place on Friday, August 25, at 11 a.m. the Christ Lutheran Church, West Montgomery Street, Johnstown. Pastor David Almleaf, officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville. Contributions may be made in Cliff?s memory to the Noah Project, in care of the funeral home. Cliff?s family is deeply grateful to the Palliative Care, Hospice and St. Mary?s Hospital for their wonderful care and concern not only for him, but for them as well.
