Clifford Leroy Fowler

Fowler, Clifford Leroy, 72 05/20/1938 06/23/2010 Clifford "Cliff" Leroy Fowler, 72, of Talent, died June 23, 2010. By request of the deceased, no services will be held. Clifford was born May 20, 1938, in Ashland, to Thomas Edgar and Ruth Esther (Fisher) Fowler. He was the youngest of 10 children. He was raised in Ashland where he attended schools, graduating from Ashland High School in 1956. After high school, he worked for a couple of years in the timber industry, then joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1958. He served in the U.S. Air Force for nine years with overseas duty tours in Scotland, Pakistan, and Japan. He also served duty assignments in Texas and Mississippi, before being honorably discharged in April 1967. He then attended college at Oregon Technical Institute (now Oregon Institute of Technology) in Klamath Falls, and Western Business College in Portland. He moved to Portland in March 1969. After college, he began a nearly 30-year career as a computer programmer analyst. Prior to moving to Portland, he married Patricia Jeanne (Whitney) Simpson in Reno, Nev., Feb. 22, 1969. Patricia preceded him in death Jan. 18, 1986, in Portland. During his computer career, Cliff worked at Genuine Parts Co. accounting division, Fred Meyer, Inc., and Multnomah County, all in Portland. He retired from Multnomah County Dec. 31, 1996. After retirement, he remained in Portland until July 2000, when he returned to the Rogue Valley, living in Talent, until his death. Survivors include his daughter, Taunya Wilcox of Mulino; sons, Kamm and Chad Fowler, both of Portland; stepsons, Paul and Todd Simpson, both of Tacoma; stepdaughters, Cynthia Simpson of Boulder City, Nev., and Penny Allen of Gladstone; brothers, Lowell of Phoenix, Ore.; and Harold "Ben" of Jacksonville; sisters, Luella Marie Hartwell of Phoenix; Jane Marie Williams of Albany, Esther Svaren of Ashland, and Carol Heinzman of Medford; three grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and numerous beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his wife, Patricia, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chet, Russell, and Robert "Bob"; and stepdaughter, Sally (Simpson) Abbott. Arrangements by Autumn Funeral Home in Tigard.
