Conley A Hurd, 94, beloved husband, dad, papaw and friend passed away peacefully at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Sunday, May 12, 2013. He was born and raised in Hancock County, TN. He retired from the AFG Glass plant. He was a master carpenter, loved to hunt, fish and worked the family farm until 1995. He was saved in 1949 at an old time church revival and faithfully attended Lynn Garden Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe and Dora (Garber) Hurd; brothers, Earnest Hurd, Roy Hurd, James M. Hurd, Jr. and Charles E. Hurd; sisters, Rettie Alsup, Ruby Hall, Hazel Blalock and Elizabeth Light. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Beulah (Miller) Hurd; son, Carroll D. Hurd and wife, Sharon; grandson, Mark Hurd; granddaughter, Deana L. Hurd; great grandson, Jacob Charles Hurd; sister, Juanita Horton; sister-in-law, Ann Hurd; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. Our family wishes to thank Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital 4th floor and the 3rd floor Wilcox Hall staff, nurses and doctors and Amedisys for their wonderful support and care. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Lynn Garden Baptist Church. A celebration service will follow with Rev. Tiger Brooks, Rev. Carl Strickler and Rev. John Coates officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 11 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 am to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Hurd, Jacob Hurd, Joe Fleming, Tom Horton, Mike Young, Michael Young, Randy Livesay and Chris Rickman. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal Livergood, Kenneth Miller, Boyd Alsup, Jeff Luethke, Harold Horton, James Worley and Greg Tyndal. Memorial contributions may be made to Lynn Garden Baptist Church, 301 May Avenue, Kingsport, TN 37660. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Hurd family.
