Mrs. Ward died May 24, 2014, at her residence. She was born January 11, 1933, in Elizabeth City, NC a daughter of the late Frederick and Evelyn Isenhour. Mrs. Ward was a graduate of Wake Forest College and had a business career in computer programming with General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY and Hendersonville, NC. She also worked with Network Data Systems in Charlotte with a stint between teaching high school mathematics in Hendersonville. Courtney had varied affections including reading mystery novels, playing bridge, traveling and exploring destinations around the world and cats. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Ward of the home; sons, Michael Ward and wife, Lee of Gastonia, NC and Philip Ward and wife, Kristin of Matthews, NC; sister, Frederica Brinson of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Sarah and Maria Ward, Lauren McCaughey of Matthews, NC, Erica Barrett of Cornelius, NC and Ryan McCaughey of Norfolk, VA. A service to celebrate Mrs. Ward's life will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Friends of the Library at Queens, 1900 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte, NC 28274 or Friends of the Mint, 2730 Randolph Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207.
