Curtis Kittrell
January 16th, 1937 - March 8th, 2015
Curtis was born January 17, 1937 in Washington, DC. Born to Daniel and Rosa Lee Kittrell. He was the 3rd oldest of 13 children. Curtis was a product of DC schools as he graduated from Cardozo High School in 1955, where he and his brother Delano Kittrell were well known athletes. He was also the valedictorian of his class. Of course we all know he had the gift of gab. Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1958. After his time in the military he settled down into his civilian life and worked in the Post Office and then as a courier. No matter what kind of work he was doing, you can bet he gave it his all. In 1963 he married Eleanor L. Williams, together they raised 4 sons, he later married Iva Rayfield in 1988 and blended their families into one. He then opened his heart to a host of other children as they did 10 years of foster care, later adopting some. Curtis Evans Kittrell Sr. died peacefully in his home, on Monday March 9, 2015 with his music still playing, after a long battle with Parkinson's and Dementia. He was a loving husband to Iva C. Kittrell. The proud father of Alvin Williams, Curtis E. Kittrell Jr., Anthony Kittrell, Edward Kittrell, Terry Barbour, Nyquitia Rayfield-Hutchinson, William Kittrell, Darryl Kittrell, Ayarna Kittrell and Quinton Kittrell. He also leaves 2 brothers Delano Kittrell and Daniel Kittrell Jr., 4 sisters Vernell Marshall, Marion Rodgers, Marie Kittrell and Thelma Kittrell. He leaves a host of other family and friends to morn his passing and celebrate his life. Everyday of his life he always had a smile and encouraging words. Some words of wisdom and a little "jabo-jeebo" on the side. Curtis woke up every morning with a song and carried a tune in his heart. Curtis passing has truly left the world one note short of a symphony.
