Dale K. Burtner Jr.

Dale K. Burtner Jr. passed away quietly August 22, 2019 at home in Olympia, Washington. He was born on October 5, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Dale K. and Mildred N. Burtner. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kansas at Lawrence and his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Kentucky at Lexington. He spent his career as a software engineer, retiring in 2005 and moving to Olympia. He loved music, playing both viola and the flute. It was the flute that he preferred and he had a grand time playing it in the SPS New Horizons Band. Although he claimed that all the good music was classical, he loved dancing to country music. His hobby was mathematics and he spent his leisure time working on theorems. He loved to read, never leaving the house without a book. He was a loving husband to wife, Carolyn; a loving father to son, Christopher (Melissa); daughter, Jennifer (Tim); and a proud grandpa to Abby, Cate and Ben, all of Olympia. He is also survived by one brother, Charles (Ruth Ann) of Scottsdale, Arizona. An informal celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at 1014 Carlyon Ave, SE, Olympia.
